MATTIE'S HEADCANONS

Ever since he was 4 years old, Mattie has gone to Legoland every year, whether it be the one in Denmark or California. Even when he was at Camp, he’d scrape up the cash for a ticket, and then sneak out at 4am, and spend the day at Legoland. Getting has ass kicked for it was so worth it.

Mattie’s an early riser every morning, something that comes from his childhood. Not that he wakes up at 4am every day anymore, but waking up later than 7:30 bothers him. He doesn’t get a lot of sleep though, and he breaks it up into blocks of naps, to recover from staying up late at night.

Mattie has a really low amount of self confidence. To make up for this, he always calls himself ‘awesome’ and other highly egoistic terms, because he wants to give himself a false sense of reassurance that he has some kind of self-worth.

Mattie’s fatal flaw is selfishness. He has a hard time understanding the risks and dangers his actions, which he sees as good for him, can have harmful effects on other people, including those he cares about.

Although now Mattie speaks and thinks in English, he still dreams in Danish.

Even though Mattie is biologically 22, he still has the mentality of a 10 year old little boy. There’s actually a reason for this, and it’s not just him being an idiot. Around 10 years old was when he developed DID, and because there was so much trauma in his life at that time, between his mother’s accident, harsh bullying at school, and living on the streets as a young child, he just kind of hit a figurative roadblock, and stopped mentally maturing.

It’s all fun and games until Mattie sticks a fork in a light socket as a party trick.

Mattie is a man who can cook, and it’s actually pretty dang good.

Sewing however, is not his forte. He’s gotten a sewing needle stuck in the palm of his hand before. Don’t ask him how it happened, even he doesn’t know.

His first official TV appearance wasn’t even intentional. He was on one of those medical ER shows, and they filmed him as doctors had to get a toaster oven off his manhood.

Mattie’s a gamer. His favorite games are Halo : Reach, Call of Duty, and Minecraft. He’s the guy that will never give up teabagging.

Mattie’s starbucks order, unless it is fall, is a vanilla latte with extra cream. He shakes a little bit of cinnamon in it too.

As much as Mattie thinks otherwise, he is a completely hopeless romantic. He’s practically the king of forgetting anniversaries. He’ll never forget birthdays though, and he goes all out on them too. He’ll bake you a cake from scratch.

He also doesn’t tell people his birthday, because he feels bad when some people feel obligated to buy him gifts.

Though, one thing that does make him a bit sad is knowing that the chances of him having biological children are slim, because of his sexuality. If he finds the right partner, he would adopt, but he doesn’t want to adopt as a single parent, because he doesn’t want to leave the kid alone if he ever dies, because monsters are good at finding him wherever he goes.

Mattie doesn’t have a fear of flying, but a fear of falling. This is because he had a dream when he was a little boy, of being in a fighter plane that got shot down, and him falling to his death until the plane hit the ground and he woke up. This same dream is the same reason he doesn't like rollercoasters, not because he is afraid of heights but the downward acceleration terrifies him.

One of Mattie’s biggest pet peeves is stereotyping. Although he proudly identifies as a gay man, having his sexual orientation overshadow him is something that bothers him.

His other biggest pet peeve is being called Swedish or Norwegian, though calling him a Swede is one of the worst offenses you can commit against him.

Even if Mattie wasn’t a demigod, he would still have ADHD.

Mattie can play the trumpet, from middle school band class. He still remembers how to play the Mission Impossible opening on it.

Mattie’s got big hands, they’ve got a nice shape and are really warm and feel nice when he hugs you. He’s just a great hugger in general.

Depending on the person, Mattie either tops or power bottoms.

Mattie likes to pretend that he’s oblivious, but if something really offended him by someone he was really close too, he would never tell that person, because he wouldn’t want them to feel bad. He’d just get clingy if they tried to correct it, and he’d feel even worse just by thinking he got them mad.

How other people think of him really matters to him, and to him, being filled up with fake confidence is better than none at all, because he doesn’t trust compliments, and often shrugs them off instead of taking them.

Mattie’s great at theatrical makeup. However, if you asked him to make a painting, you’d get stick figures and misshapen trapezoids.

One of Mattie’s most disliked places is hospitals in general. He despises them, mostly for having bad experiences in them during his youth. In particular, psychiatric hospitals make him nervous, seeing as he has been admitted to them twice before. Once as a young teenager (14) for his dissociating personalities, which were originally diagnosed as schizophrenia until later years, because of the fact that he saw monsters, which were interpreted by the mortals as hallucinations, and they thought that the idea of Mathias himself was a hallucination made up by Mattie, rather than a completely separate personality. The other time he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital was for alcohol addiction and rehab, though he was clean for a few months, he fell back into addiction, and has been struggling with it since the war especially.

Mathias’ defining traits are typically seen as antisocial. He has a destructive and self-centered way of thinking, and is highly intelligent and manipulative. He has little concern for anyone’s wellbeing other than himself. Even though he and Mattie are practically polar opposites, there are a few similarities the two share, such as having the same fatal flaw. Another one of these things is a liking towards fire, although Mathias’ is a far more destructive typically pyromaniacal way than Mattie’s innocent love for a bonfire with friends.
