Even a Villian thinks their Cause is Nobel
Felicity walked down the sidewalk of the Southern town. It wasn't all that bad, quite cute she might note. If she wasn't here trying to do some recon she would probably admire it a lot more. Especially the shop windows with their Christmas displays all up. It was a magical scene, the only thing that would make it better would be if it started to snow right now. She had always been a fan of the Christmas season, what it stood for. Not the Christian thing or whatever but the helping those in need and giving and sharing type of festivities. Even in the legion it was a better time. She use to go all out for the season too, getting all her friends presents and trying to do something special on the actual day but it didn't seem like there would be any festivities this year for her. She had been too bogged down in work to even notice that Thanksgiving had passed.
Not that she would have had many people to spend the day with anyway. Those who she had considered family were either dead or didn't align themselves with her, which made them symbolically dead in her mind so it worked out. Oh well, maybe she can find some people to do a small Christmas with. Jin had always been nice and while she knew he wasn't always around perhaps he could be a friend for her during the time. Or maybe she could do something for camp. No training on that day, actually go out and have catered food. Something to make the time of year a little bit better for those under her.
She stopped in front of one of the store windows and watched the robot winter wonderland. A smile on her face, followed shortly after by a small laugh as a few kids ran by it and gasped at the scene before running across the street to some video game store which left the young twenty-one year old staring into the scene, wishing for the times before the legion where her life was like a winter wonderland as well. [attr="class","lucystarsd"]Mattie despised Christmas, he had no care for it at all. It was his least favorite holiday. Even Halloween and easter, which were just two big marketing schemes held higher importance to him than what Christmas had. It was around this time of year that he tended to buy things in bulk, to sustain himself for longer times without having to leave his home. Call him a scrouge if you were so inclined to, the fact that his only thoughts were to sock the barista or cashier whenever they said the words ‘Happy Holidays’ or another thing along those ridiculously jovial lines were to sock them dead center in the throat. He came for coffee, not your green and red striped and smothered in happiness bullshit. No thank you. [break][break] Of course, it wasn’t snowing. They were down in the South, and the moderate climates did not make it forgiving for such an idea as a White Christmas. In fact, compared to Copenhagen, Mattie found the streets to be dull, monochromatic. Back when he still celebrated, and god forbid had a liking towards this spiteful holiday, he and Berwald running down the streets, pelting each other with snowballs, ducking between the coats of some more unforgiving strangers for their rude and imbecilic behavior, that was certainly the idea of a certain blonde Danish boy. Now that, that was a typical Christmas for Mattie Densen. The past was a drag in the nicest terms, and Mattie had the farthest idea from high hopes for this year's holiday season. [break][break]
The Dane strolled the streets, scoffing at the outlandish and absurd excess of holiday themed decor that coated the streets and shops like a thick lacquer, oozing over everything and everyone, save for himself. It was about then that Mattie caught sight of someone he hadn’t seen in quite a long time, Felicity. Her attention was diverted towards the display, and she seemed more than content. It was that expression on her face that made Mattie crack a smile. Not because he had any care for Christmas, but seeing Felicity smile like that, he hadn’t seen that in a long time. [break][break]
Mattie quietly made his way behind her, putting one of his hands on her shoulder with a small smile on his face. “I see you’re enjoying yourself, eh?”, he said, without as much as an introduction, chuckling slightly. He used his other hand to fix his favorite scarf around his neck, the one of the Danish flag. It contrasted with the rest of outfit, being the only amount of color on it, save for maybe his golden face and cheeks rosy from the ‘cold’. In fact, just seeing Felicity was enough to brighten his mood, the two were close, even if they hadn’t really seen each other too much lately. From what he had heard, his younger cousin was running a large group of breakaway Romans. It was a huge accomplishment, and he hadn’t ever really had proper time to talk to her much since the war, seeing as how soon he had left afterwards. [break][break]

Even a Villian thinks their Cause is Nobel
Felicity was so busy focusing on the merriment scene in front of her that she didn't hear the heavy footsteps behind her. Which would have been a bad thing had the person been seeking her out to kill her. She wasn't sure how many people could actually put a face to the name of the Roman Renegade leader. Of course Angel knew what Felicity looked like, they had been in the legion together and Felicity had been married to her brother, granted it was a short time. But even then she wasn't close to Angel, she was closest to her cousin, Mattie. Which seemed to confuse everyone but while she seemed to avoid people he seemed to seek them out and eventually they just became best friends, she would tell him everything. She was sad when after the war happened she couldn't find him. People said he left, which she never blamed him, she just hated being without her friend. So when that familiar deep Danish accent came up behind her her face lit up a lot more than the Christmas scene at the window did.
She turned around and wrapped her arms around him tightly. "Mattie! What are you doing here? It's been forever! Gods, I've missed you." She pulled from the hug and smiled up at her, letting the hard demeanor of someone in charge and back to a young adult, letting herself seem her age or show that glimpse of a child still in her. Mattie always had that affect in her. With him around she didn't need to pretend to be anyone, she could be younger and more carefree. She was able to have fun with him around. Not to mention she grew to love Danishes because of the Dane being around her. Even nowadays she makes her way over into town and sometimes brings a box back full of Danishes for those under her command. Granted, they weren't always grateful, a lot of them were tough around the edges and as she wasn't a natural born leader sometimes it was a lot more difficult. They were thirty for blood and Felicity just wanted to give them a place to live and grow first. Shouldn't they have a place before they decide on revenge? Sure, she hated the Greeks as much as they did but just ruthless revenge was a pathetic plan.
"When did you get back, actually, what have you been doing? I was told you just disappeared after the war. I mean, I 'm not mad, I just wish you would have called or something." Felicity asked before shaking her head. "It doesn't matter. I'm just happy to see you again." Felicity said with a smile before getting humped into by a random shopper who muttered something about worthless college students before heading on their way leaving Felicity giving a small laugh. While Christmas was her favorite time of year most people were as rude as possible.

[attr="class","lucystarsd"] The expression on Feli’s face was priceless. In fact, Mattie wasn’t sure he had seen anything like it before. After the war, Feli was so distraught, it hurt Mattie to see her like that. He was there for her as long as he could have been, before the two eventually parted their separate ways, Mattie leaving for the mortal world whilst Felicity stayed to lead the Romans, from what he had heard. As much as it would have hurt Feli, if he had stayed with the demigods he still wouldn’t have gone with her, because that would have meant having to be around Cato. And just, no. Seeing her so happy made Mattie happy as well, even though it was the holiday season. [break][break]
Attacked with a viciously cuddly hug, Mattie chuckled, before wrapping his arms around Feli, pulling her towards his chest and very comfortable grey sweater. “I’ve been back for a few days, five I think? Time really flies, eh”, Mattie said, with a small shrug of his shoulders. “Filming wrapped up last week, so I’m off work for a while, thought I might stop by, for you mainly. I just didn’t know where you would be”, he said, with a small frown. He hadn’t really had any idea where the camp she lead was, so he had only spent the few days he was here prior looking around the town, hoping to find Feli somewhere. Mattie tightly held Feli in the hug, one of his signature Mattie hugs, those kind were so warm and cuddly they were the cause for the melting of the Polar ice caps. [break][break]
“I’m sorry for not telling you, but I’ve been a lot of different places. Went back to Denmark for a few months, then I went to LA. I’ve been really busy, I guess I just haven’t really found much of the time to call… I’m so sorry”, he said with a small frown. “I’ll totally make it up to you though, Feli! You’re more than welcome to hang out with me today, we like, really really need to catch up, fam”, he said with a grin. “I’m happy to see you too… I missed you, Feli”, he muttered into her tight embrace, before releasing. [break][break]
“Just because I’m too poor to eat something besides Top Ramen does not make me a college student!”, Mattie exclaimed, jokingly angry with the obnoxiously rude stranger. “Besides, I get enough sleep. Kind of”, the blonde Dane joked, smiling at his cousin by his side. That last statement was totally a lie, he was usually too anxious or hyped up with sugar to sleep. Or he was watching Danish dramas with his satellite at three am, because time zones sucked. The last one usually happened every weekend. He really needed a DVR, but they were expensive, and there was no way he was ever going to accept a Christmas present.

Even a Villian thinks their Cause is Nobel
It had been awhile since she had been in such a tight hug. It made her throat tighten up with the thought of crying almost. She felt safe and comfortable and loved in this moment. Like the rest of the world didn't matter for the entire duration of this hug. That things were as they were before. That they still had what they needed to be happy. Mattie's hugs had a way of doing that. Gods how she had missed him. How had she gone so long without him to remind her not to grow as cold as the powers she could use. To not become a shadow of her former self. She had done so much she wasn't proud of just to keep order, it wasn't fair. But she deserved to be respect as much as any other person and there was only so far being nice could give you.
Then the hug ended, much to her dismay. However she did give a laugh as she nodded her head. "Yeah, we have a hell of a lot to catch on. And did you say filming? Mattie! That's amazing! What kind of movie is it? And you know you could have always IM'ed to ask where I was. The camp is a bit hidden, for safety reasons, obviously." She said with a slight laugh. She was proud of him. She had known he had been into acting for the longest time and obviously the commitment to the legion kind of prevented him being able to pursue that so now he was, and that was good. Honestly, Felicity had had other goals and ambitions besides dealing with the legion for forever but without it she wasn't sure what she would do with her life, she couldn't go to college. As far as the government knew, she was still a missing person, which also prevented her options of getting a job. Maybe she would just travel, that was one of her goals, to see the world. Granted, shadow travel used a lot of energy which made it hard to do but still, one could dream, she was allowed to do that so as long as some child of Somnia didn't interrupt her.
"There's a pizza place not too far from here if you want to start our day of catching up there." Felicity stated with a hint of a smile. Pizza was one of her favorite foods after all. She'd pay too, she had enough money to do so. She wasn't rich or anything but she had enough to splurge every now and then and this was certainly a time that counted towards splurging. After all, it wasn't every day that you ran into your favorite family member. [/quote]

[attr="class","lucystarsd"] Mattie was a prime candidate for the World’s snuggliest hugs. His hugs just had a way of doing that. It wasn’t a bad thing that he gave them to people frequently. After all, the world would do well with a lot more hugs. War and conflict was everywhere, and even just a moment to remember that there was warmth and something else to break the perennial pattern of destruction of suffering was something Mattie saw as extremely important. He had seen a lot of things, done such things that he would prefer not to mention… As a whole, there was much of his early life that was not made of such fondness, darker times and memories he could try only so hard to forget. What he didn’t want was sympathy, but the knowledge that he could maybe change such a cold darkness for anyone else, and to him, hugs were just a small way of expressing such a thing. [break][break]
“We really do! I take it you’re doing well, right? I mean, I hope you are”, Mattie rambled, much of his excitement visible through his expressive features. His body language and facial expressions spoke almost as much as he did. “Eh… I could have, I guess after the war I just lost touch with anyone from camp… You’re the first person from Camp I’ve seen in a very long time”, Mattie said, with a small shrug of his shoulders. The truth was, Mattie wasn’t really too close with many of the people from Camp. It was mostly just Feli and Berwald who he considered to be close friends, but now with Berwald gone… There wasn’t too much for him there, not a reason Mattie would want to stick around with a group of people that mostly thought of him as a nuisance, anyways. [break][break]
“Oooh, yes! I’d love to!”, Mattie exclaimed, bouncing onto the balls of his feet, shifting his weight from up and down. It was more or less his way of bouncing, instead of going up and down. Something he had picked up from acting on stage, considering the fact that he wasn’t the lightest person to grace the planet Earth. If he were to make a complete jump, the sound would be too loud, and it would block out whatever the rest of the dialogue was supposed to be, as well as distract from the actions that were the main focus of the scene, not just a really hyper Danish guy bouncing. Even though for some reason he was cast to play villains and darker characters a lot… It was odd, but he pulled it off well. Perhaps a bit too well at times.[break][break]
“I’m not letting you pay either, it’s my treat to you, for being hella awesome”, Mattie said with a smile on his face. He wasn’t rich by any standard, his little flat in Los Angeles was something out of the fantasies of someone on the television show ‘Hoarders’, with just enough square footage to barely be considered a closet. Thankfully, it wasn’t an actual closet. After all, Mattie had lived in one of those for 16 years, pardon the tasteless gay joke.

Nothing a Little Family Time Can't Fix
Felicity started leading the way with a shake of her head. "No, it's fine, really, I don't want to burden you. I haven't seen you in years, the least I can do is pay for pizza... or at least half it with you?" She said giving him a half smile. "After all, you're awesome too." Which was true, in her mind. When most people thought the hyperactive son of Jupiter was annoying or said snide comments about him under her breath she would still be there, waiting to talk to him about her day and listen to him and all about Denmark. With him around she let her tough exterior slide, she let herself be younger, after all, she was younger than Mattie and he had always seemed like an older brother to her, having no family of her own besides her parents it was just something bound to happen, it was a plus that they were cousins through the godly side but she always just saw him as something more.
"How was Denmark by the way. You said you went back there, right? Is it still as amazing as you say it is?" She asked teasing him slightly, though she was very curious. Taking an interest in someone's life always seemed to make them happier. She had been practicing that more often within the camp, she didn't want to rule with an iron fist like Cato had. Granted, most saw him as a hero, which, he was in a way with how he took out the scourge of Rome and all but it didn't make him a kind person. That was what she wanted to be, she wanted to be the leader because the people wanted her to be. Not because of her birthright or the fact she could take a majority of them. That wasn't what was suppose to make you a good leader. True, Rome was known to be tough and all but there was other things too and she wasn't too concerned at the moment with showing it's strength when they could barely form a legion in numbers. The priority now was to regroup, recruit, and recuperate. Then it would be time to plan. Once all the positions she needed were filled and training could begin. Which, speaking of recruiting. "So do you think you'll stick around? I can offer you a place to stay back at the camp."

[nospaces] [attr="class","lucyskyd"] [attr="class","lucymoond"]538 words / for Felicity Merrimen / the muse is high in this one. | [attr="class","lucywhisperd"]error! |
[attr="class","lucystarsd"] “You can never out-stubborn me. I’m totally paying for us, no ifs ands or buts about it!" Mattie said, holding the door open for his younger cousin, the smile he brandished never wavering from his face. “I already know I’m awesome though”, Mattie said, smirking slightly as he entered the quaint pizza place around the corner. “Uhm… Can I have a Hawaiian please? Not so sure what the awesome ‘cuz wants though”, Mattie said, taking a glance back to Feli, as he swiped for an unreasonably large drink cup. After all, it wasn’t a treat if you didn’t completely overindulge yourself in anything that came at a discount. In Denmark, free refills were like unicorns, finding a place that offered them was nearly unheard of! Damn his country and it’s overpriced goods and services. [break][break]
“It wasn’t as awesome when I was gone, but that’s ‘cause I wasn’t there”, he said, chuckling slightly. Yeah, he had already started with the ego stuff, but that wasn’t anything atypical for the Dane. “For real though, it’s pretty nice. It’s a real timeless place, some parts of the city look as though you may have pulled them straight from the nineteen hundreds themselves, and then there’s other parts that are so modern… It’s really nice, and damn I missed it so much. I’ve really got to take you sometime. I may or may not have gotten a summer home out in the countryside. I mean, it’s not really too close to the coastline so the two of us won’t be completely screwed, and that’s like, always a plus! Though it sounds like you’re really busy with your job and stuff”, he said, with a small smile. Surprisingly, it wasn’t too pricey at all, his home in the countryside. It was a different lifestyle out there than he had it in both Los Angeles and Copenhagen. He was living quite comfortably in Los Angeles, working his way up the little hierarchy of society. He didn’t have it bad though, he was living in a pretty decent two story in Thousand Oaks, a cute little suburb with some of the least cute people, and he didn’t mean personality wise… People were just so rude these days, even though in Copenhagen that was just expected, as most people were closed off to strangers like Mattie. He never had many friends as a child, and most of those in Copenhagen he had mostly forgot about him, so yeah, no friends there. [break][break]
“Er, I don’t really know. I mean, until seeing you here I haven’t really had much of a reason to stick around. I’ve been renting out a small place but that’s really meant for short-term stuff, ya’ know. I’ve got a place back in California…. I mean, if you want me to I’m sure I could work something out with my agents. There’s nothing really in production at the moment, so I’m sure if I was gone for a few they wouldn’t have much of a problem”, Mattie said, happily munching on the slice of pizza in his mouth, his feet swaying under the table gently, though he was trying to be at least aware enough to not kick Feli from under the table. Nothing a Little Family Time Can't Fix
"You act like you can't out stubborn me, that's cute." Felicity said with a smile. In all honesty, he was one of the few people who could at least make a claim to being just as stubborn then her. Most people just gave up with her. But nope, Mattie could be stubborn. Especially early in the morning when he needed to get up for training. How many times had Felicity had to physically pull the oof out of his bunk and force him to join the rest of the cohort? It wasn't a light task either, she got her workout from lugging him around in the morning. At least it worked up a good appetite for her for breakfast most of the time.
She followed Mattie inside the small pizza place, the aroma hitting her hard as her stomach growled slightly, causing her to hug herself around her waist. She hadn't realized how hungry she was. When was the last time she had eaten anyway? She always go so involved in her work and then usually her dinner consisted of bottles of alcohol just so that she'll be able to sleep soundly. Otherwise her memories would plague her nightmares. Memories of the war, the happiness before it that would never arise again, it was too much for her to handle still. "Uh... Hawain is fine with me." Felicity said, not wanting to be difficult, and she really didn't mind that flavor of pizza either. She reached over and got a small size drink cup from Mattie because refills were a thing and the bigger cups were expensive, she didn't want to take advantage of Mattie's generosity.
Felicity took a seat and listened happily to Mattie as he explained his hometown. To say she was a little jealous was an understatement, she had always wanted to travel deep down but it was difficult for her, for obvious reasons. Shadow travel just drained you too much, and it would take a lot of jumps to make it someplace like Denmark, not to mention she'd probably spend the entire first day there passed out in some alley somewhere. But maybe with Mattie she could survive a flight? Or at least she would try to get there, if he was there she would be safe after all, that was another thing, she didn't want to jump and just be abandoned passed out somewhere. Her eyes light up when he mentioned he needed to take here there sometime. "Dude, I wish! It sounds amazing! I always get such wanderlust whenever you talk about it. Definitely going to have to be one of the first places I visit. And hey, I'm my own boss. If I want to go and take a vacation, there's really no one to tell me no. I don't have to worry about some overthrow of power, the Romans are still too crippled for that."
Felicity sipped from her drink and ate a couple bites of her pizza as she thought. "I mean, yeah, I wouldn't mind you sticking around. Kind of selfish but it'd be nice to have someone who saw me as a friend and not as a leader around too. Plus, I'm sure there's people around who still remember you. I'm not saying I'm going to force you to join up with the Romans again, I wouldn't force anyone, so you can just come and go as you please? But at least you'll have like your own tent there to do so. And yes, I said tent, we don't have barracks yet, we can't afford to build them." Felicity said with a small sigh, she had such big plans of the group but it was just going to take time and money, both of which she was working on at the moment. If others were more eager to help rebuild first and then get revenge it would make the entire process a lot easier but everyone just seemed consumed by their own revenge. It wasn't like Felicity wasn't. She wanted them all dead, even just thinking about how most of them were just sitting idly by probably singing some stupid campfire song made her blood boil. She didn't like this side of her consumed by revenge either, but it seemed to be the only side of her nowadays as well until she drowned it out with alcohol at night.

swinging with the old stars
Living for the fame
“I’m like, one hundred and ten percent certain I can out stubborn you”, Mattie said with a chuckle. The two of them were especially close, and they did come pretty close in terms of stubbornness, though as much as Mattie would refuse to admit it, his point of relenting was a bit before his cousins, who could actually beat out Mattie in terms of stubbornness. It was an actual possible thing, though Mattie was extremely stubborn. Trying to talk him out of something would have happened after he got an A+ in AP Calculus, which would be around the time the Underworld became Arendelle. Trying to get Mattie to do anything whilst the Danish boy was hungover would be a task that even the gods would struggle with, the more drinks Mattie had, the less likely he’d ever be leave his bed in the morning, not without a good pull from Felicity of course. “Alright, awesomeness!”, Mattie said, a large grin on his face as he placed the order. It didn’t take long for him to have their food, after all. The service at this place was remarkable, Mattie could say that at least. He wasn’t fond of rude waiters, and having worked as his mother’s bakery, although unofficially, for most of his life until he was sixteen, he knew that anyone involved in food service didn’t have it easy. Customers could be assholes! If it wasn’t for the fact that their home would have depended on the quality, Mattie would have definitely tampered with the asshole-ish customers baked goods, but of course, they didn’t need to be condemned any time soon for some kind of petty vengeance. Mattie returned to Felicity with the shared pizza and a drink for himself, sitting down on a plush booth. “I’ll have to take you some time, I’m not going to forget it either, unlike my taxes. I’ll have to show you around where I grew up, Copenhagen is a really great city. My old neighborhood is really great too, there’s a lot of old-timey bakeries, they’re really great. I was just there a few weeks ago. Everything’s the exact same as when I was a little anklebiter, the old church and Catholic school is still up and everything. If you squint enough you can still see my blood on the pavement too, it’s pretty neat!”, Mattie said, with an innocent smile. He would have loved to take Feli to the old District of Copenhagen he grew up in, seeing as his childhood was centered around there. Last time he was there, he hadn’t even bothered to go into his mother’s old bakery, but he knew it still stood there, the same street corner it had always been… Mattie never had it in him to go through those glass doors since he left the apartment above it six years ago. Mattie’s curiosity was peaked with what Feli had said next, about the Roman’s being crippled. It was a funny thought to Mattie, seeing as he had always seen the legion as an embodiment of strength and power. “Are you guys doing good? I mean, after the war I didn’t really stick around to see who was around and whatnot… I really don’t know anyone from the legion except for you who’s still alive.”, Mattie said, with a small frown on his face, seeing as his last memories of most of those people weren’t even his own, but Mathias’. Even though it might not have been the most obvious, Mattie got quieter, which wasn’t really all too much considering the obnoxious and loud ambience that the blonde had. Mattie didn’t stick around after the war, he was one of the first few to jump ship, or rather, train. At the time, Mattie was twenty one, and tight on the budget, he didn’t even make it to Los Angeles legally. He hid in the back of a cargo train, backpacking it to the city, successfully evading the authorities for his illicit transportation. Mattie wasn’t stable enough to hitchhike, it took him weeks just to get a handle on himself, and he didn’t want to put a random trucker at risk, Mathias certainly wasn’t the most friendly people around. “It’d be nice to be around some old friends, or at least people who are okay with me. I mean, you’re the only person I’ve talked to from the Legion in months.", Mattie said, shrugging his shoulders slightly. “Feli, you’re literally talking to a guy who used to be homeless, I really could care less, as long as there’s shelter”, Mattie said, with a small shrug. It wasn’t exactly the brightest spot of his history, but it was there, nonetheless. “You know, if you guys are in a tight spot with money, I’ve got some cash lying around. It wouldn’t kill me to give some to efforts to help with stuff. Kinda like… Eh, what’s that fancy English word, compensation?”, Mattie said, nodding his head a little bit as he sucked at his supersized soda, which was of course Cherry Coke. Mattie wouldn’t have had it any other way, unless it was maybe Cherry Dr. Pepper or an energy drink. Nothing a Little Family Time Can't Fix
Felicity laughed. Trying to imagine Mattie as the height of an ankle biter seemed an impossible task. He was so much taller than she was, not that she ever let that get in her way, she never let her average height keep her from doing impossible tasks. Sure, she had shorter legs so she couldn't run as fast, at first. Keep training and anything was possible, plus it helped that she played soccer at such a young age, she had good running endurance. "I'm sure it's not your blood on the pavement still. Probably some other kid." Felicity said, trying to be reassuring, but she wasn't too good at it like she use to be. She had a feeling Mattie had a pretty rough past, hell, who didn't? But she never pushed the facts out of him until he was ready to tell her. Growing up gay back then wasn't as easy as it would be for a kid nowadays, she knew that. She still didn't tell people for the longest time when she found out her attraction to both genders, she thought something was wrong with her or that it was phase that she would soon get over. Really sexuality needs to be clarified better, or people need to quit with the stigmas, honestly that would be better.
She leaned back in her chair at his question. Were the Romans really doing good? Their numbers were low and people still didn't listen to her as well as she would like. She had no idea how Cato and the other praetor were able to pull it off like they did, they seemed to have such a knack for it. Hell, from what she had heard even Angel has a better time at leading over at the joint camp then Felicity did at the Roman camp. She didn't want to lead by fear but if it came to it, she wasn't going to just shrug it off and she could be extremely scary if she needed to be. Part of her just wanted things to fall into each other simply, without too much confrontation. "Yeah, it's still just an adjustment. People want this and that and there's just not much to pass around and they're seated on revenge. I mean, I do too, but we can't just run in screaming like barbarians. It's not the Roman way, we need to have a plan. It won't do if my first attack ends in failure, that'd just give more people reason to overthrow me and replace me with someone they deem better. You know the stories, Romans are prone to doing that, look what happened to Ceasar!" Felicity finished with a long sigh, she didn't really show that she was worried in her position but it just suddenly came out. Luckily she stopped herself before she ended up ranting to her cousin all day.
"But we are okay financially, I won't take your money, you earned it and I'm sure there's a lot better things you could be doing with it than just funding the legions sins. But we have some friendly people in the legion, I'm sure there's people you'll recognize and stuff." Felicity said with a smile. Having Mattie around would really relieve some of the stress she had been under. He always brought out her more childish side and well, she let herself relac around him. She didn't have to pretend to be anyone she wasn't when he was around. "Stick around too long and I might just have to give you a job in the legion, make you pull your own weight though. I'm sure I can find some fitting job." Felicity said, giving him a teasing smirk. Oh yeah, because there was totally a lot of jobs out there that screamed Mattie Densen, especially in the Roman legion. Like...toilet scrubber!

swinging with the old stars
Living for the fame
“Hah… Unless some kid conveniently busted their head on the same place I did, nah. Wishful thinking though”, Mattie said, chuckling as he nibbled at his food. “Haha, old memories, am I right?”, Mattie said with an awkward laugh. He’d taken an awkward turn to the conversation, talking about his past was something that was uncomfortable for him, mostly because the automatic reaction most people had was pity for him. No, he didn’t want to have anyone’s pity, it just annoyed him if anything. Brushing it off was easy enough to do. He hadn’t told much of it to anyone really, either. Ber might have known it, but now, Mattie wasn’t even sure there was anyone alive that really knew what went on with him. It did make Mattie somewhat curious though, just as to what there actually was floating about him around. He didn’t exactly slip under the radar easily. If anything, the year or so he had spent working on his acting career he did just the opposite, catching the attention of casting agents and directors. It only went uphill after there, though Mattie wasn’t exactly sure when the pinnacle of it all would be. He wasn’t much aware of the tensions that went on back with the Romans, Greeks, and Titans. The war was more of a blurry spot on his life, he and Mathias didn’t share experiences or memories much, so he only had what he considered glimpses, and those alone were enough to upset the Dane. “Caesar? We’re not overthrowing salad, are we. The Dressing wars? I’ve gotta say, #TeamBalsamic all the way for this guy”, Mattie said, with a joking smirk to his cousin. He knew fully well what she had meant by that, it would have nearly been impossible to be a Roman and not know about Caesar, even if you happened to be as unscholarly as Mattie was. Mattie would have never told it to his history nerd of a cousin, but his European History class might as well have been naptime for Mattie, he usually slept through his classes and took the D, it wasn’t like school mattered to him. The only class Mattie could even have been bothered to pay attention in was Chemistry, it was at least somewhat familiar to him having the knowledge of being able to mix substances because of how often he helped in the back of his mother’s bakery, and there clearly wasn’t too much of a difference between dangerous toxic chemicals and sugar and bread leavener. Looking back on his past, he probably should have paid more of a concern to his education, it would have done him well, but he usually had more on his mind than what was going to happen in his classes. Thankfully, Mattie didn’t have problems with insomnia anymore, being kept on a tight schedule with the Legion kind of forced someone to get that much needed rest, no matter how impossibly difficult it seemed. “I’m sure you can do it, Feli!”, Mattie said with an encouraging smile to his cousin. “After all, you were like, a centurion. If anyone is qualified enough to think of a plan, it’s you”, the blonde added, retaining his amiable smile, trying to be as supportive as he could. After all, he was one of Feli’s legionnaires, under her cohort. He knew how she operated in that sense pretty well, though technicalities weren’t anything he really kept track of. Feli was his best friend and cousin, Mattie was certain she could do it. “Eh, it was worth a shot. You just reminded me to go to the store too… I need more danishes, I already finished off my box from yesterday”, Mattie said with a shrug, leaning back into the booth. He wasn’t going to insist or anything, if she was adamant on not taking Mattie’s money. Besides, pastries were his ultimate weakness. “I hope so, I missed you guys. Hopefully me not being dead isn’t a major disappointment”, Mattie said sticking his tongue out. Mattie pretended to scratch his arms frantically, pulling a contorted and pained facial expression. “But Feliiiiiiiii. You forget, I’m like life threateningly, allergic to work”, Mattie said, pretending to faint on the table, slumping his back over it, and sticking his face against it, looking up at Feli. “Payment can be made in danishes and hugs?” [/font][/div] [/div][/div] [newclass=".rght a"]font:12px roboto!important;color:#D4AF37!important[/newclass][googlefont="Roboto:400,700"]

Nothing a Little Family Time Can't Fix
Felicity gave a slight frown. Thinking of someone hurting Mattie just made her blood boil. Sure, she teased him and maybe gave him a hard time sometimes but she had that right, she was his younger cousin. But watching someone else pick on him just was not allowed in her book. Even in the legion, if she was teasing with Mattie, that was a okay, the moment someone else did she would intervene if someone else hadn't already. Granted, she had more people than just Mattie to look out for but after they started getting along she put him in a special place because they use to not get along at all. They use to butt head likes no other. Especially when he first joined the legion and she was still getting use to her role of centurion. She couldn't have just anyone ignoring her authority so she went tougher on Mattie, looking back on those days maybe she could have gone a little easier on him but it as the past and there seemed to be no ill will between the two, she just hoped the same could be said with her and Mathias because as much as she loved Mattie his counterpart just made her uneasy because she knew he could annihilate her easy. Jupiter kids were powerful, no doubt about it, not to say she wasn't either but the have an advantage in some ways, especially with fighting in daylight.
She couldn't help but laugh at his dressings pun. "Balsamic? Are you insane, gotta go Italian, plus then I get all the hot guys because everyone knows a bottle of Italian dressing comes with a free shirtless Italian model." Felicity joked with a smile on her face. If that was true she was sure that she and Mattie would crash every grocery store within a fifty mile radius and just stock up on all the Italian dressing and then enjoy some Italian sausage later that evening. Not together of course, gross, no, Mattie was attractive but he was hella gay and was like a big brother to her so obviously that was never ever going to happen. "But I was only centurion of the fourth. My biggest struggle was waking you up in the morning. Not like we were the first who woke up at four in the morning and started training till the sun went down. I wasn't that mean." Felicity replied. Maybe the first wasn't that harsh but she wouldn't have been surprised. She use to watch them train when she first joined, that was when she first saw her former lover, he was in the first and then became a praetor alongside Cato. Seemed like forever ago. Now both praetors were dead, though she really only mourned the lost of one. Nothing against Mathias's brother but her and Cato had always a difficult relationship, she wanted to surpass him but never could and so she felt belittled by him at times and she was sure he knew that. But she also married his coworker so living a life without ruining into him at least once a week was an impossible task.
"Life threatening allergic to work is not synonymous with being lazy, no matter how many times you use that excuse." She said matter of factly as she sipped her drink. "But that does sound like a good trade..." She teased as she smiled at the Dane on the table, grabbing a napkin and balling it up quickly to throw at his face as she tried to hide the growing grin on her face from doing something so childish in public. She didn't care though, so what if they were both twenty something and people would look at them and judge. Felicity hadn't seen her cousin in forever and he was the one she was able to be like this with. Gods forbid one of the Romans from her camp walked in on this moment though, she might as well resign if they saw her anything but the scary daughter of Pluto aura she had worked hard to build to wear around the Plebians who stuck around. swinging with the old stars
Living for the fame
Mattie had noticed Feli frown, and although he might not have shown it, it bothered him slightly. He didn’t mean to upset her or anything… Gods, he shouldn’t have said anything in the first place. Now that he thought about it, plenty of problems could have been avoided that way. Mattie had a tendency to run his mouth towards people that he probably shouldn’t have. It would have shaved at least a few black eyes and bloodied lips off his record, that was for sure. Those really tended to rack up quick, especially back when he lived in Denmark. He’d already taken the conversation somewhere awkward, not intentionally of course. “Hej, no frowny faces when Mattie’s around. Pleaaase!”, Mattie whined, lurching over to attempt to pinch her cheek with a goofy smile on his face, his attempt at cheering his younger cousin up. “Italian? No way, it has twice as many calories as Balsamic. Besides, those spicy Italians are tempting… Hah, I’ve been single for so long I doubt I’d even be able to get close to sausage”, Mattie said, with a small shrug. He’d actually never been with an Italian for that matter, just a Dane. Mattie had relinquished romance for the past year or so, ever since the war he wasn’t feeling up to it. That was mostly just no one being able to match Ber, though. A guy like him set the standards high for anyone. “That still makes you like, really qualified. If you could yank a sixteen year old me from the loving embrace of my sheets every morning, I’m sure you can run a camp of battle-ready Roman demigods out for some Greek blood, right? Lighten up Feli, you’ll be fine”, Mattie said with an enthusiastic smile. Mattie shuddered at Feli’s comments on the First cohort, Mattie had seen some of those guys train back at Camp and well… damn, they were intense. It was actually kind of scary to Mattie, finding it difficult to wrap his head around the idea that most people weren’t lazy like him. He was probably the most unromanly Roman around, he’d stick out like a sore thumb amongst all the intense guys of the First. Not that any of them could ever beat Mattie when it came to beer pong. “Someone needs to get me an epipen…. Or maybe some danishes and Friends on DVD. Yaaaas. I should really be less lazy but at the same time, like, no”, Mattie said, resting his head on the table. The look on his face was reminiscent of a hopeful little puppy, maybe his hair made him look more like a Golden Retriever than usual? It was fluffy and spiky, with a light gel Mattie added to make sure it was voluptuous and fluffy, without worrying about it drooping. His hair was so long when it wasn’t spiked it, it was ridiculous! “I make all my danishes by hand, not store bought or anything! Special Densen danishes! Like, the best of the bestest, and that’s not me bragging and inflating my ego at all at all because you know I’d never brag”, Mattie said, teasingly. He had the tendency to inflate things, especially those about himself, it came as a sense of self-confidence to him, seeing as he lacked much of the real stuff to actually pull anything sufficient from it. He was quiet on his insecurities though, his own personal difficulties and struggles that had plagued him. It wasn’t until then that he was assaulted by a napkin hurled at his face, while he had slumped over the table. Mattie hadn’t had nearly a fast enough reaction time to bat the napkin away from him, instead it clung to his face and restricted his vision, putting the Dane in a bat of panic. He had to get it off! Mattie batted at it whilst it was on his face, jumping up, and whacking the upper part of his legs against the bottom of the table, his heavyweight rocking the table, vibrates tremoring the table, resulting in the spill of Mattie’s soda all over the top part of his pants, the cold and wet sticky soda dripping down his pants, as he shrieked in a shrill white girl fashion. By the time Mattie had swiped the napkin off his face, he had made a big scene, once again making himself out to be the idiot to end all idiots. Nothing a Little Family Time Can't Fix
Felicity didn't realize how perspective her cousin could be at times. She didn't think that the small frown was obvious or anything and it was nothing against him it was just the thought of seeing him hurt that made her frown. But seeing that Mattie cared made the corner of her mouth curve from the frown into a small smile. He had such a big heart, it was hard to imagine he was ever in the legion. After all it had a way of turning the most gentle of souls into a hardened war ready one. That's what it did to her. She went in so naive and innocent and by the time the four years had passed and Mattie showed up she had already been indoctrinated into the Roman mindset. She had flickers of the self that the Romans couldn't completely crush, mainly coming out around Mattie. "Okay okay, is this better?" She said giving him a smile.
She laughed. "You and me both, Mattie. I don't even think I remember how to flirt. I've just accepted the fact that I'm probably going to be single for the rest of my life." Felicity said with a small shrug as she leaned onto the back legs of her chair, something her mom use to chastise her for all the time when she was younger. But Felicity was being honest with what she told Mattie. Ever since the war happened she had been too focused on her position and she changed some, at least in how she appeared to people. She was cold and distant, she didn't mean to be but she wasn't going to open up, not with so much at risk. Plus, a part of her was worried about opening herself up to something like that. She doubted there could ever be a guy, or girl, that could make her feel as safe and comfortable as her last relationship made her feel. It didn't help she was completely awkward around people she liked, despite how confident she seemed she always seconded guessed herself in her head. So instead of just showing how much anxiety she really carried she just shrugged when Mattie told her to lighten up and decided to keep on with the conversation, letting the subject change away from all her anxious worries.
"What, you brag? That's completely unheard of, no idea what you're talking about. You're like the most selfless person I know." Felicity teased with a smirk. "Though if your acting career never kicks off you can just make a bakery with that name. Densen Danishes. I'll be a regular there, walk in and you'll already have my order made and I'll leave the best tips too." She said with a laugh. After all, it wasn't like she had anyone else to spoil and for the longest time until she ran into Mattie today she didn't have anyone. She was more a loner, that was just how she did things and after the war just seemed to strengthen that idea in her. It helped her stay focused after all the only reason she didn't go with the peace treaty was because she was focused on revenge, and she hated the girl who took over the Greek Renegades too. But if she allowed herself to open up and feel again for other people what was to stop her from moving on from the issue that fueled her revenge anyway? Deep down did she really hate the Greeks? They were normal people in lives they didn't ask for either. Of course if she ever uttered that she had doubts like this, especially as the leader she would join Ceasar in being stabbed in the back by everyone she worked with. Break the record, stab her forty times in the middle of the forum instead of the thirty something the former dictator got.
She jumped at the scream and looked at him wide eyed and had to cover her mouth to keep from exploding with laughter. She stood there trying so hard to stifle a laugh as Mattie stood there in his drenched pants which really could suggest he pissed himself instead of just spilling soda while the entire pizzeria stared on at Mattie like he was crazy. Felicity got up and grabbed a huge handful of napkins, letting out a small laugh as she handed him the napkins. "It was just a napkin, Mattie, I'm so sorry. Oh my gods, lets get you cleaned up, c;mon." Felicity said as she grabbed his arm and pretty much dragged him into the family restroom. "Use the hand dryer to dry your pants, otherwise it looks like you pissed yourself." Felicity said with a small laugh, thinking back on what just happened and hiding the fact that she wanted to literally roll on the floor with laughter.

swinging with the old stars
Living for the fame
“You look really great when you smile, you should totally do it more”, Mattie said, reaching for the sugar packets on the table, ripping the top off one and spilling it’s contents into his mouth. Mattie had collected a rather large collection of bad habits, one of which being an insatiable craving for sugar. He craved the buzz alike that of alcohol for him. It was one of his many stimulants to keep him afloat during the days, perhaps one of the only pillars on his stability to keep the blonde Dane from crumbling to his own tensions. Very rarely was there a day that he didn’t end up drinking until the late hours of the night, but he wasn’t about to bring such a topic up with Felicity. After all, it was fam time, no place for negativity. Mattie was all about at least presenting optimism, and he knew Feli well enough to tell that it had been a hard time for her. He had heard what had happened to her husband during the war, and it pained him to see a tragedy happen to someone so close to him like Feli. After all, Feli was the only family Mattie really had, or at least those that would have actually talked to him… He wouldn’t have admitted it to anyone, but that was something he cherished tightly. One of the hardest parts of L.A. was the complete absence of someone close Mattie could have leaned on, just knowing Feli was okay made Mattie sound again. “Yeah, selfless, because that’s totally the word that can be used to describe a person who spends more on hair product than food for themselves”, Mattie said, laughing slightly at that. It wasn’t far from the truth, whilst Mattie could waste away nearly half an hour on his golden blonde hair, especially if he had to touch of his stereotypically Nordic ice blonde roots, there were usually two or three days a week he forgot to eat at all. In fact, if he hadn’t ran into Feli and the two of them were to go out to get pizza, it would be unlikely that Mattie would have eaten until his next breakfast… Yeah, it was a problem, but it didn’t really bother Mattie too much, and it wasn’t a conscious decision. Besides, whenever he was filming, hours were long and eating on set wasn’t exactly something that was praised upon, especially if still in costume. Mattie was an especially notorious for his messy eating habits as well. Was eating ice cream as messily as possible a sport? If so, whatever it was would be right up Mattie’s alley, that was for sure. He actually wasn’t too bad at sports, or at least he used to not be… He’d been out of practice with his football, or as Americans called it, soccer. He learned to play it on the schoolyard, but he never got the chance to play in a formal league, he didn’t even bother to ask his mother when he was younger. He understood by then that they barely made ends meet with bare minimum, paying for an extracurricular sports league was out of the question. While his mother Tilde was a talented baker, they moved around so much in the city that it was difficult to establish themselves before they were forced to relocate, and holding down a place in general was hard for the small family of two. Now, compared to the rich kids Mattie went to school with at the private Catholic school in Copenhagen he spent most of his time around, he was the black sheep in similarly cotton-colored sheep, sticking out like a sore thumb against his (over)privileged peers. The only reason he was even allowed to attend the school in the first place was likely because his mother was so involved in the church, and they’d have felt bad otherwise, pitying her for her mental issues. They hadn’t realized that her son was likely the biggest bundle of trouble they had ever had step through their doors. “Feli… I can barely take care of a potted plant, unfortunately for your dreams of my own fancy bakery, I’m way too irresponsible for that. Besides, alliteration is so cheesy, I’d need something snarky to put on a t-shirt to market to the masses. That is provided I’m not swimming in all that money from my awesome acting career of course”, Mattie said, a small laugh escaping his lips. With all this cocky talk about himself, he might as well have anime boy sparkles glistening off him, but then again, this wasn’t some host club...Or was it? The world may never know. “Besides, I’m so done with waking up early… I don’t think you’ve ever felt the pain of having to wake up and help someone make pastries at four in the morning, and then like, go to hours of school and deal with people after that, haha. I’m not surprised I’m so lazy, I probably burnt out when I was like, fourteen.” That really wasn’t saying all too much, seeing as Felicity had been in a bunch of really difficult training with the Roman Legion since she was ten years old. Mattie was never much of a Legion superstar, he could barely get out of bed without being dragged out by his cousin who also happened to be a centurion… He would have said it was more of Mathias’ thing, but there was a basic ideal clash at the core that would have essentially brought a different sense of struggles. A lot of Romans seemed to be all about honor and glory, whilst Mathias was only concerned with getting his hands dirty for his own sake. He didn’t appreciate people telling him what to do either, unlike Mattie who wouldn’t have said anything even if he was getting beat by another set of schoolyard bullies as a childhood activity, Mathias wasn’t concerned with anyone else to stand up for himself, which usually didn’t end well, especially when it almost ended in a fatality… At least, that was what Mattie had understood about the situation, the two of them had a disconnect with what they did and didn’t remember about either of them, like a blank spot in Mattie’s memory. When Mattie stopped yowling like some sort of Danish hound on steroids, he was able to pay attention to what Feli was saying to him. Mattie, although he was more than a caring and open minded friend, his attention came a little bit short. His cheeks with flustered red, Mattie running a hand through his scruffy and fluffy blonde hair nervously, his wide blue eyes aiming their gaze anywhere but everyone else who stared at him. Yeah, this wasn’t his best moment… Mattie was thankful for Felicity pulling him into the privacy of the bathroom, lest he have just slid into his chair once more to pretend that nothing had happened, shaken with embarrassment. Yeah, the blonde Dane was way too oversensitive, especially when it came to his own ego. “It’s alright Feli!”, Mattie said, his messed up hair flattening a bit, especially after he had messed with it, one of his nervous habits. Gah, this wet cola against his pants was really uncomfortable. “Ew, they’re going to be really sticky if they don’t get rinsed out first!”, Mattie exclaimed once they were in the privacy in the bathroom, before taking off his pants and rinsing them underneath the sink. Of course, he had boxers beneath his pants, and it wasn’t anything like that at all, he just needed the cola out of his jeans. “I like, totally didn’t piss myself though”, Mattie said, making a small peace sign with his hands… Now, to fix that mess he had made of his hair. Nothing a Little Family Time Can't Fix
Smiling, right, that was a thing. Honestly, she use to smile a lot. She use to be optimistic and naive and adventurous and want to see the entire world, even after she got into the legion. Granted, she smiled even more once her and Mattie became friends, he was always able to get her to smile, even on her worst days. He had some secret power about it, she always wondered how he did it. The only other person who was able to tell quickly when she was depressed or upset or angry and then be able to cheer her up was her old lover. Gods, thinking about him still hurt. He was her first everything and unfortunately what they say about your firsts is still true, you never truly forget them. The only way she was able to possibly move on was by just drinking it away and trying to numb the feeling by more bad choices. Granted, looking at the past she realized that not all the times with him were great. He wanted to stay in New Rome and follow his career and he wanted her to stand dutifully by his side, to put herself second and she was following blindly then. She had dreams and goals too, granted, none of them involved staying in New Rome, at least she didn't think so. The only reason she would would be so that she wouldn't risk dying every morning she woke up. Wasn't that why she had taken charge of the renegades? To get that lifestyle back, to avenge those they lost. If it was, why did it seem that the fire that sparked her rebellion against the joint camp was dying?
She couldn't help but laugh and keep the smile up for her cousin at the mention of hair products. He really did have too much, how he was able to afford that in the legion was beyond her or maybe there was some secret black market going on for beauty products that the Venus kids ran that she never knew about. Which wouldn't surprise her, she scared most of them and half the time looked like a mess anyway. Whether it was covered in sweat, dirt, blood or all three from the intensive training she would push herself through. "Hey! Alliterations are not lame. Besides, Densen Danishes would be amazing on a shirt and then you can make like Double D jokes or You Want the D. Get the boys and the girls no matter their sexual preference." Felicity said with a smile at her cousin. See, she was capable of cutting sex jokes too, granted she was probably so innocent before meeting Mattie and being exposed to the ultimate walking talking sex joke book. But she never tried to make it obvious. How lame would that be? Fourteen year old centurion not even knowing what was hidden behind a guys pants and then being teased about it. Yeah no, she had to learn so she did what any good natured nerd would do and researched. Which really wasn't hard considering the way Roman art looked, even if those silly Romans could never fully copy the Greek statues with the way they created balance. She knew how to tell the difference but she wasn't about to admit that the Greeks were better than the Romans at something, especially not now. "So that explains why you were such a lazy bum then in the legion. Seriously, way to make my job harder. Have you ever tried pulling you out of bed?! It's literally the worst work out ever."
Once the two cousins got into the bathroom and Felicity closed the door she turned around just in time to see Mattie pulling off his pants. Her face still went warm, not for liking Mattie like that by just out of embarrassment at being caught by surprise by it. He had a good reason for it anyway. Felicity was already heading over beside him to help him. She couldn't believe this all happened just because she threw a napkin at him playfully. Gods, remind her to never be playful again. In fact it would be fantastic if she could just become like a statue and be left alone and then no one would bother her. Okay, she didn't really want to be a statue but it beat being starred at in the restaurant like that and gods only knew what people were thinking with a boy and a girl in the restroom together. They were in the South for gods sake. They'll both probably walk out of the restroom and come face to face with a priest who would splash holy water in their faces. Wonder how that would work. The gayest gay and the daughter of the devil pretty much being splashed with holy water. What even made water holy? Christianity was such a weird concept. Heck, religion in general in all honesty. But she very well couldn't start calling herself an atheist even if she didn't believe in her father at all. But that was a different kind of believing.
"I know you didn't pee yourself. I was there. But gods, ugh, what are those people going to think? What if they call someone, like the cops. I'm not even sure I exist and are you even here legally? Or what if they call a Priest and he throws Holy Water at us and we end up melting like the Wicked Witch of the West did in the Wizard of Oz, Mattie, I don't want to melt." Felicity said a little frantically. This was why she shouldn't be left with her thoughts sometimes. It started to make her worry about things she didn't necessarily need to worry about. She read about something like that, anxiety disorder or what not, It seemed silly. She was capable of stopping herself from worrying. It just... maybe? She wasn't sure. She would just focus on helping Mattie scrub his pants. But with a deep, worried sigh she moved her hands away from the water and ran it through her hair, pushing it back. Gods, she was really worried and it was for such a stupid reason too.

swinging with the old stars
Living for the fame
"It wouldn't be my place if there wasn't some sort of sex joke involved, of course", Mattie said, chuckling slightly. "Fiiiine, I'll consider it for an imaginary bakery I'll miraculously open for your lunch breaks, because normal people don't eat Danishes for dinner, heh", Mattie said, running his hands through his golden blonde locks. Most of Mattie's diet consisted off baked goods. He might as well have been allergic to anything green and good for you, seeing how rare it was that he picked at a plate of salad. The only exception to this was cherries, as Mattie could demolish a bowl full of the red fruits down to nothing. Cherries were one of his favorite foods, as well as anything cherry flavored, such as Danishes, lemonade, and other sweets. Mattie might as well have had a mouth full of sweet teeth. Sure, it wasn't the healthiest, but it was how Mattie ate. Although he wasn't much of a shining example as to how to live, Mattie would have wanted to make sure that his friends and family were well. It was really one of the only few things that mattered to him, the welfare of those he cared about. Now, really, the only one of those people that was alive was Feli. "Oh come on, I was not a lazy bum! Okay so maybe like a little bit but I wasn't the laziest bum of the bums. Besides, I can't just skip leg day with those squats, my ass has to be on point at any given moment. I need more than milkshakes to bring all the boys to the yard", Mattie said to Feli, with a wink. He was wrong though, he was a pretty big lazy bum. Unless trying to figure a way to get out of trouble for skipping training to do it in the forges with a hot boyfriend was considered a workout... If so, Mattie was a professional. Thankfully, that time in Mattie's life was over, he and Feli were even friends, best friends at that. She was the closest family Mattie had. Mattie's mother was her own subject entirely, and there was a lot of tension between the two of them, left untouched since the last time Mattie had seen her, six years ago. He got along well with his sister, Cienne, although they didn't see each other much now, she was doing her own thing across the big pond in France, and keeping in touch through letters was hard... Demigods couldn't use phones, it might as well have placed a bright orange target on their backs to monsters. Mattie especially, being a Big Three he was already hunted just for well, existing. Cienne understood his reason for not dropping her a call. The two of them had their own tracks, while Mattie was doing well in his career in acting, she was doing editorial shoots in Paris for high-fashion lines. It was pretty cool, at least in Mattie's opinion. Cienne sometimes sent him a big package of the high-end brands she worked with, most of the clothes Mattie wore were from her. Except his most prized possession, his Danish flag scarf. "That's the point! Maybe if I resisted enough and made your job so miserable you'd leave me alone and let me have my beauty sleep. Besides, sixteen year old me was not that heavy. Try it now and you'd probably need reconstructive surgery.", Mattie said, sticking his tongue out at his younger cousin. It was true, when Mattie was younger he was especially scrawny, with a messy cut of platinum hair, a white ash blonde hue. Thankfully, when he got back to the States he had a major hair makeover. He dyed his natural hair color to the golden blonde color he wore today, and gave it a trim, though it wasn't much. Compared to the standard length for men, Mattie's hair was still rather long, when he didn't have it gelled or pulled back into a small ponytail it would go over his ears to the top of his chin. He usually wore it spiked and gelled in the front and the back pulled back, a look he really liked. He never had his hair untouched. The only time there wasn't any kind of style with it was when Mattie stepped out of the shower, and sometimes in films. He didn't have a say for his hair or style on screen, whatever the director and stylists thought was needed was what he wore. If one thing was certain though, it was that Mattie had better style sense than most Romans. Though those bulky and attractive Roman men had nice bodies, most weren't exactly style forward... Mattie kept it simple in terms of style, he would never be caught dead wearing something hideous or flashy, or not wearing pink on Wednesday. A chill pulsed down Mattie's spine, sending a shiver through the body of the Danish boy. He wasn't entirely comfortable taking off his pants in a relatively public place. Whenever he took off his clothes it was usually in private or on screen, of course. Mattie was very self-conscious of himself, thankfully he hadn't had to take off his shirt. He wouldn't have done it anyways, and dealt with the stickiness until he got back to his place. Even if it was just Feli, Mattie was very uncomfortable with it. "Relax, Feli. It's going to be fine", Mattie said, biting his lip slightly, the scrubbing coming to a stop. "The holy water wouldn't do anything, I've touched it before and stuff. Did I ever mention that I used to be a super conservative Catholic? If I didn't melt then I wouldn't now, tsk. And I don't think anyone would call the cops, and if they did I'd just just get deported and go back to Denmark", Mattie added, with a small smile. He didn't realize that saying that probably didn't ease his cousins worries at all. Mattie typically was oblivious to the effects of his words, and he would have never intentionally done something to harm Feli or cause her to worry for him. Mattie didn't like having anyone else worry for him, it typically inspired pity and it irritated Mattie to no end. It was the main reason Mattie kept quiet about everything that had happened to him or bothered him. Shrugging it off with a smile on the outside was the easiest way to distract from it, kept people off his tail as well. There was only a small number of people who knew what Mattie had gone through and just exactly what he had going on with him currently. At least until the war, there were very few people who even knew about Mathias or met him. Offering explanations was difficult, and Mattie didn't want people using his condition as an excuse for himself, which he would have rather not talked about. It was a bad time, leaving nothing but painful memories, at least the ones that Mattie could collect. Mattie and Mathias didn't share memories, which led to difficulty when Mattie was drawn back out. It was reminiscent to pulling pieces out of a puzzle. All he could do now was make sure he was doing the best to other people to help them in whatever way he could. Mattie slid his pants back on, the wet fabric clinging to his legs, making them especially cold. Mattie jolted a small bit, a wince evidence on his features as he felt the cold of his pants against his leg. Ahh, Mattie wasn't usually this easily bothered by the cold. It was all the warm Southern weather getting to him. He had slept outside in the Danish winter, which made this look like sunshine in comparison. Mattie turned around, looking back at Feli. He knew something was up, he could tell it from one glance at her, like a Spidey Sense, but not really, just a fam thing. He just knew Feli, not that it was a bad thing, but she was bothered by something. "Seriously, Feli. What's up? You wouldn't be this nervous for nothing... I won't tell anyone if it makes ya' feel a bit better?", Mattie asked, sitting up on the top of the garbage can, his legs kicking slightly. The feeling of water running down his pant leg was just grossing Mattie out, so he had to sit down somewhere. Nothing a Little Family Time Can't Fix
Now that she thought about it Mattie was really the only person that she knew that ate Danishes like their life depended on it. Seriously, did he eat anything else? She supposed she could answer that question due to the fact that they were inside of a pizzeria. But besides that he pretty much always had a danish on him, it was like he was a secret vending machine of them. Where did he put them? She knew he was Danish and all but seriously, he filled the stereotype with that baked pastries which couldn't he be considered a cannibal in a joking sense? The Danish eats danishes? Yeah, perhaps it was a good idea for her to let Mattie do all the jokes, hers were always lame or very nerd based. He was always good at them and made people laugh. If they were having a comedy standoff the cricket sound effects would be her sound of applause whereas Mattie would probably get a standing ovation.
"If you need more than milkshakes than you just don't have the right kind of milkshake, just saying. I would go into all the yards for actual legitimate milkshakes." Felicity said with a slight laugh. "And you're like the laziest person I know so don't even with that. Seriously, until I meet someone who can out lazy you that throne in yours and since I'm not a social butterfly you better make yourself comfy." She said, giving her beloved cousin a smile but in reality she might tease him about being lazy but if she ever had the opportunity she would be there with him. He probably didn't know that about her since she was always up before him in the legion and getting him out of bed but if she had the opportunity she would just roll over and wake up naturally at some oddball time of the day. She got up because she knew she had to do something and get it done and she didn't want to be a disappointment to anyone. Even now she forced herself to wake up and take care of what needed to be done. If there was such a thing as a night owl and an early bird she was that. She didn't get enough sleep at night and she was never taking good care of herself. She was pulled too tightly and always on edge. She didn't realize just how much stress would come with being the leader and she knew she wasn't everyones fan. Maybe that was part of the reason she was so glad Mattie was here at the moment. She didn't have to worry about Mattie stabbing her in the back, whether it be figuratively or literally. She was the person she could probably trust the most in the world at the moment and so she felt safe and carefree around him, letting her guard drop ever so slightly so that she could enjoy this rare moment of relaxation.
"You don't know that. I'm pretty strong you know. Though if I had to do it now I'd probably just yank your blanket away and then make your feet really freaking cold to wake you up. See, I'm innovative. I don't just need to use blunt force." Felicity said with a cocky smile. Though he was right, he looked heavier, not in a bad way, but he did seem more fit and toned in the muscle section. Which she would love to know what finally motivated him because hell if she knew how to motivate him. Thankfully the war came because she was about to take a stick and stick a danish from a string on one end and tape the stick on him and have him just run around chasing it. She totally would have videotaped it for friendly blackmail later also, because how could she not? That would have been golden.
Once in the bathroom and taking care of the stuff and Felicity having a near panic attack on the idea of holy water she looked at her cousin with worried, wide eyes as she listened to him. She vaguely recalled he had been in a Catholic school before but she had also watched a show called Supernatural before and she saw what Holy Water could do. Though him saying he'll get deported did not ease her worried at all, if anything it just made her worry more, which was probably obvious in her face. She couldn't lose Mattie, not now. Not after finally feeling safe for the first time in months. He was her best friend, her family. "That isn't exactly a comforting thought, Mattie" She said in a slight mutter to him.
She shook her head as he put his pants on. Why didn't he put it under the hand drawer for a bit. Now he was going to get sick. She walked over to the dryer and pressed a button. "Mattie, you need to dry your pants some or you're going to get sick. Come over here and just stick your butt under the air or something." Felicity said, ignoring his past question as she ran a hand through her hair. He would probably think it was stupid anyway if he knew the truth. How do you tell someone you were scared of the people you were leading? That you haven't had a good night sleep since gods know when and half the time you barely eat? She didn't want him to have to worry about her, she didn't think her worry was obvious. "I just... I don't know, don't worry about it. It's nothing. You're my main concern right now." Felicity finally said, with a hint of exhaustion prominent in her voice. She just had to get through today, and the next day. Just keep moving forward, that was all she could do at the moment and all she was really capable of. She had too many other people and concerns to worry about and so she could keep shoving hers on the back burner. It was no big deal. Like she said, right now the main concern was taking care of Mattie so he didn't get sick. Her worries were stupid and just self-conscious problems that the overly confident Dane probably wouldn't understand anyway. To say she was a little jealous at how confident he was would be an understatement. She tried to be like him in some aspects, be friendly and confident but it just wore her out, she couldn't do that. She liked to be alone and hide away her problems and she didn't know how to communicate well so she always came out harsher than she intended to at times. At the end of the day, the two of them were just two different kinds of people.

swinging with the old stars
Living for the fame
“Wow! Feli, I came out to have a good time and I’m honestly feeling so attacked right now… I’m taking that as a personal insult to my glorious milkshakes. They’re like, straight outta Denmark”, Mattie said, with a peace sign. Hopefully Feli would have understood that reference. Mattie was always caught up with the cinemas, whether they were referring to the common media in modern times or theatrical classics. That would have been one of Mattie and Feli’s shared interests, nerding out over historical things. Some of Mattie’s greatest inspirations had come out of the Golden Age of Hollywood, and the Danish boy had copies of many of the greatest theatrical hits of all times. His collection was truly impressive, and he spent most of his money on that, hair product, or legos, rather than like, necessities like food and whatnot. “Oh come on I am totally not the absolute laziest. I’m sure there was someone else in the legion lazier than me, right? I couldn’t be the absolute bum to end all bums”, Mattie said, sticking his tongue out slightly. He was probably extremely wrong, Mattie was even lazier in the beginning just to spite Feli, as the two of them clashed tremendously, and Mattie was too much of a stubborn prick to realize that being an asshole to someone else to try and get them to stop was just not smart or cool. Eventually though, he relented…. for the most part. He was still pretty lazy, even if he wouldn’t admit it. The same boy who would wake up at four in the morning sharp to help his poor mother with their only source of income had grown into the laziest man in the world. Though being burnt out wasn’t even a good excuse for anything. Mattie was just a lazy asshole whose favorite pastime was inhaling danishes and other baked goods. “Yes, but I’m also really heavy. Like, hella heavy, Feli”, Mattie said, somewhat shyly. Mattie was always pretty self-conscious about that, more about the number on the scale than a physical appearance thing. It was more of a family trait thing from his mother, in fact he looked remarkably like her in many ways, with pale hair and dense bones with the same defined facial structure. Mattie’s mom was typically very frail and sickly in appearance, from what was shown through her ambiguous and drapey-like clothing. Mattie shuddered slightly, Feli wouldn’t have even needed to use her powers to have made Mattie shiver. Now now, he was almost beginning to second guess himself, he wasn’t ever one for waking up or really sleeping for that matter. One of the reasons he had such a problem, with waking up during the Legion would be his lack of being able to fall asleep. Even after a long day of training, Mattie found it hard to find rest, being plagued by recurring fears and dwellings in his own head. Mattie had a lot of regrets from his younger years, many of them never washing away, only adding to the others brought on by the war. Mattie wouldn’t have ever been the same after that, of course he had had a large issue with his mental health beforehand, but waking up after a battle with blood that he knew wasn’t his own with little recollection or even as much as an explanation. Memories were inconsistent between the personalities, and oftentimes, Mattie wasn’t open to asking, it was an enigma to most how he had flipped personalities so much and he would have felt a burden to ask on what had went wrong, but over time he could put together the pieces as part of the intricate puzzle that was the life of Mathias Densen. It didn’t take Einstein, or even much more than a high-school flunkie like Mattie to put two and two together. “Wow, remind me not to oversleep. Not that it's really going to be much of a problem, sleep is for the weak”, Mattie said, with a small chuckle. By for the weak he meant he was usually up on tumblr at the latest hours of the night, or kept up by his own nerves and copious amounts of caffeine and alcohol. After all, nothing really said responsible like taking a can of red bull that said ‘do not mix with alcohol’ on the can and making Jagerbombs, right? Cheap alcohol was practically Mattie’s staple food, his diet was really out of whack, though he didn’t realize the adverse health effects it had on him yet. Mattie was mostly caught up in the present, he had always lacked a sense of forethought, and taking responsibility for his actions was especially difficult. It had always been an issue of his, even since he was a young child, and trying to avoid facing his mother over something miniscule. A hard habit to break, it taught him one of the only things he knew to do well, lie. Mattie was a great liar, after all, he made a career out of it for himself. Acting was just lying to the masses, playing a role in which you never truly are, a talent for lying on the big screen was especially lucrative as well, Mattie had proven. Mattie had high ambitions, one day, he hoped to be a director, in charge of theatrical projects of his own, but he was working his way up the hierarchy, slowly but steadily. He’d only been around the Los Angeles scene for a few months, he still had a long ways to go. “You know what though. I honestly wouldn’t be mad about getting deported on one condition. The immigration officer has to point at me and be like ‘HE DOESN’T EVEN GO HERE’ and then I’ll be perfectly one-hundred percent chill with that”, Mattie rambled, too caught up with his own idiotic thoughts. Mattie heard what Feli said, and immediately his expression had changed to that of worry, out of his own words. No, he hadn’t meant to cause Feli any kind of stress like that, holy Denmark he was just such a dunce. “Ah! I didn’t mean to upset you or anything, gah”, Mattie said frantically, as he attacked Feli with a very wet panted hug. He really thought she needed a Mattie hug, and what better way to initiate familial friendship than wet tackle hugs of the platonic variety. Probably wouldn’t be the most innocent position for outsiders to walk in on…“I’ll just use the heat from my mixtape to dry it no problem”, Mattie said with a small grin. “Me, your main concern? Really, I’ll be fine, Feli. Don’t worry about me. All is good in the Mattie Densen hood”, Mattie said, tilting his head slightly, concerned for the welfare of his younger cousin… He felt some kind of resistance, so he decided not to push for more details, as he didn’t want that to end messily for the two of them. Nothing a Little Family Time Can't Fix
Felicity shook her head at the Dane and the little reference he gave at the immigration joke. To say she didn't get it would be a huge lie. How many times had her cousin forced her to watch the movie once they started to get along in the legion? It seemed every time they had a night off and would spend it together they would watch that movie together. It made her wonder ever so slightly if that was all Mattie and his former fiance did, watch Mean girls all the time, how could one live like that? She didn't mean to sound judgmental, she really did love her fam, he was her closest person at the moment. "Mattie, c'mon, not even Mean Girls could make that situation more bearable - ah!" Felicity wasn't able to complete her sentence because all of a sudden she was attacked with a very wet hug as she squirmed in his arms. "Dang it, Mattie! Your hugs are suppose to be warm! Not make me soaking wet.... oh gods, that sounded wrong... Maaaattieeeeee." Felicity whined as she struggled to get out of the son of Jupiters arm, finally freeing herself.
"Mattie, please, your mixtape is so cold it makes my powers look like a heater." She said with a slight grin before shaking her head at the last bit. She didnt want to explain any further and Mattie seemed to respect that but she knew not everything could exactly be that great, not that shee didn't want that for her beloved cousin, it just seemed impossible. Gross, maybe she really was starting to have that pessimistic way of thinking that was stereotypical of Pluto kids. Great, only took her over two decades to finally live up to her stereotype. Though she did have that rather be alone and awkward at being around too many people thing down to a T, something that seemed like that exact opposite of her cousin, which made sense she supposed given his father.
She gave a sigh. She had probably spent too much time hanging out with him, there was a pile of work waiting for her back at the renegade camp. Mattie did saw he might come with her, at least for a bit. "C'mon, I need to start heading back. You want to come with me? No strings attached or anything? Might throw in some new pants for you and all." She said with a slight laugh as she opened the door to leave the family restroom she had dragged Mattie into earlier the cool air conditioning hitting her where the hug had drenched the little bit of her clothes, at least the walk back to the camp would dry her off. swinging with the old stars
Living for the fame
According to all known theories of Mattie Densen, any problem could be fixed with excessive viewing of Mean Girls or Legally Blonde, with a fresh plate of danishes or bowl of chocolates ready to be snacked at, all topped off with a side of platonic cuddling. “Feli, Mattie’s rule number what, eleven or something, Mean Girls can fix any problem”, he said with a false surprised and overdramatic gasp, leaning over to lightly boop her nose with a grin on his face as he bounced over to her, spinning on the balls of feet, his careless actions making it easy for him to slip but Mattie kept an excellent hold of his balance, it was easy for him to balance his core and spin around with ease over his toes. “Hehehehe, don’t you Mattie me again or I might have to surprise you with the Ice Bucket challenge. Just kidding, I wouldn’t be that evil, I’m a precious and pure Dane”, Mattie had a smirk on his face, morphing into a cherubic expression with the bat of his golden-blonde eyelashes, eventually releasing his struggling cousin, but not before savouring every moment in the warm and wet hug. Of course it wasn’t that kind of wet, even though Mattie was practically the king of sex jokes and dirty humor, he wouldn’t go that far with Feli, way too straight for his liking. Even though there was some strange Texan girl that had insisted that Pumpkin Spice lattes were his weakness and he’d have straight sex with some Greek girl for one of those. Of course nothing like that would happen, like, ever. No matter what any strange Texans said to him to question his concrete solid homosexuality. “That roasting was so brutal, damn Feli I’m literally a Kentucky Fried Dane right now. I literally cannot even deal with this roast”, Mattie said, overdramatically leaning over, only to slip in the puddle of water and smack his head against the sink, causing a spray of water to burst from the pipe and douche his gelled blonde hair, effectively soaking the Dane in water from his blonde hair to the top of his favorite scarf. Mattie bounced back up quickly, grinning at Feli and rushing to leave the bathroom before he was framed for the destruction of the poor pizzerias bathroom, kind of a side effect of being well… Mattie. The Dane tended to leave a wake of unintentional and careless destruction in his path. Gee, it would have totally sucked if he ended up doing the exact same thing to his relationships. Not like Mattie would ever completely ruin and shatter any sort of positive relations with some on the grounds that Mattie was a complete self-centered asshole, right? Nah, that wasn’t gonna happen. “Well, I hope you haven’t gotten out of practice with pulling me out of bed, just like the good old days”, Mattie said with a joking smile as he grabbed onto Felicity’s hand, and headed straight for the door, heading off with his favorite cousin towards the camp. There wasn’t anything like Felicity to cheer Mattie up either. [newclass=".rght a"]font:12px roboto!important;color:#D4AF37!important[/newclass][googlefont="Roboto:400,700"]
