Despite being a daughter of Thanatos, Emily is quite bubbly and very outgoing. She's very positive and friendly, you'd never guess that she was related to Death himself. But because she can see ghosts and talk to them, it allows her to very grateful with life and appreciate it way more than the average person. She doesn't fear death and has accepted it long before she realized the concept, she always figured if she died she could see her dad once she knew who he was. Emily is also a very sweet girl who can sometimes get in way over her head. She tends to focus on big picture and over look key details that are very crucial in certain situations. Despite most Greeks she's not afraid to fight and she's not afraid to get her hands dirty when she needs to. Most of the time she's very tired because communicating with spirits and using them in general can become very draining. Most of the time she looks tired but you couldn't tell because she's so peppy that she seems energetic.

That's how Marianne Vanitas always started the story of how her and Thanatos met. She really liked Coldplay and it described the setting well. Marianne was just a college kid at the time. She was going for her bachelors in education to become a teacher for English. She was finishing up her last semester at Dartmouth and decided to go out with a few friends to a small party held at one of the sororities one of them was apart of. It was there that she met Thanatos. But of course he wasn't obviously displaying the fact that he was death. He was masquerading was a student studying anthropology. He was quiet and seemed a bit awkward at the party, just like herself so she couldn't help herself but to be drawn to him.
She was surprised to find that the young man was quite eloquent and has such a way with words that made her swoon a bit. His outlook on life was so different from anyone she had met too. She couldn't help but fall for him, she hadn't seen him the rest of the semester however. Three months after she graduated she met him again and soon they were dating. Just a few weeks in after he disappeared again and soon Marianne found herself pregnant. She continued to work for the nine months and then after Emily was born she took a maternal leave to take of Emily for a little while. After a few months she returned to work, leaving Emily with her grandparents in the mean time.
Emily knew she was something special she always had friends to talk to at her house and she was happy playing with them. The only thing is that whenever anyone was ever looking at her play with these so called friends, they never seen them. All they see is Emily talking to herself and running around alone. Her grandparents chalked it up to having an overactive imagination. When she got to school she realized that she wasn't talking to regular people but ghosts. Once she figured that out she had to ignore them when she was at school and apologize when she got out because they hated that. She spent a lot of her time after school helping ghosts that were trapped on the plane and exorcise them. But doing this constantly made her tired and drain but always being so happy and cheerful you couldn't tell.
When Emily entered high school she ran into a spirit of a fallen camper that roamed around freely trying to get back to their body. Emily ran into them and they tried to get her to help but she didn't understand anything they were talking about. So the camper had to explain to her that she was probably a demi-god and that she needed to head out to a camp called Camp Half-Blood. They made it a point that she had to go there before the monsters notice her and start attacking her. So during summer break she packed her stuff and told her mom she was leaving to a camp, explaining what she was told. At first her mother refused. Marianne couldn't believe what she was hearing and forbade her from leaving. But Emily snuck out and left for camp that night. Two days later she ended up at camp and she was greeted by someone there.
Thanatos was trying to catch the run away soul for a while and when they met up with his daughter he decided to wait until they lead her here to take them back. And when he did he met his daughter although he didn't tell her who he was and quickly left with the spirit. It left her reeling because he was able to control ghosts and it was cool considering she has a similar ability. From the age of 16 to 17 she joined the camp. The first year she stood with the Hermes cabin. The second year Thanatos actually claimed her and then she was able to learn how to use her powers better. She wondered why it took him so long to do so but she ignored it to have fun at the camp.
Months before the war Emily left the camp to resolve things with her mother. They hadn't spoken for those four years and the reunion was quite bittersweet. And she stood with her mother for a year. During the year she saw more spirits roaming freely, spirits of Greek and Roman campers. The Roman ghosts tried to attack her but she easily banished them away but they would always come back. Eventually the Greek spirits told her about the war that went on and just came to close. While communing with the spirits she found out about the Romans and how they burned down Camp Half-blood and then the Greek retaliated and burned theirs down. Emily had to leave to try and send all the wandering souls of both sides before they started haunting everything up. So she spent a year doing that and heard whispers about a join camp between the Greeks and Romans. Emily decided to head off there to see if she could help in anyway.

Powers & Abilities
[attr="class","section"][PHANTASKINESIS] — The ability to commune and control the other worldly spirits like Necromancy. With this ability Emily can:
-Summon spirits from the underworld (unless they're in the pit) or exorcise them from the physical plane (i.e. Bodies or just standing around. Although this is just temporary and spirits may be able to return after a short while).
-Manipulate souls into doing what she asks. (This is limited to things they can do and things that don't go against their morals and beliefs)
-She can curse people to be haunted by spirits for a short period of time, the maximum being three days.
-By using the energies of the spirits she and imbue people with the sense of fear. This too lasts for a limit time (the most being three hours) but at the height of it's power it can cause crippling from fear. It also takes phobias into account as well.
[DEAD EYES] — A minor ability all children of Thanatos possess. They can see the dead and are able to commune and even physically touch them.
