When Elle had heard about the Halloween Masquerade, of course she was going to go. She contacted her mother about it, and a few weeks later a box arrived for her. In it was one of the most beautiful costumes she'd ever seen. It was absolutely gorgeous, and it fit her like a glove. Before leaving, she'd combed her hair until it shone and put it in an intricate braid. After catching a glimpse of herself in a mirror, she felt very much like a real fairy. One who pranced around and served Queen Titania, the beautiful queen of the fairies. A fairy who came out at night and danced in the forest, and when everyone else went to bed, danced in the sunlight. A sun fairy her mother called it in the letter. Her mother had worn the costume, and now it was going to be hers. For the first time in her life, she felt like a princess going to a ball. She could dance and make new friends, flirt with any pretty strangers because for once she would have the confidence to.
As she arrived, she glanced around in awe at all the different costumes. And then it seemed to dawn on her: she had never celebrated Halloween. When so many kids in the U.S went trick or treating, the adults went to Halloween parties..she was at Camp Half-blood, and now the Greek Renegade camp. Elle had never had a "normal" childhood. Just a childhood full of music and training, and then war and bloodshed. She could never get those years back, no matter how much she wanted to. They'd slipped from her fingers, right out of her grasp. Sometimes she did act like a kid- running and bouncing around, singing. Trying to cling to any childlike innocence she had left. Elle had always told herself that life was too short to get angry at anyone. Ironic considering how she was angry at those who'd destroyed her home. Angry at those who went to the joint camp to fight alongside them. Gods, what a silly thing to tell yourself when you were already angry anyway. But she wasn't one to raise her voice at someone who bumped into her on accident.
Speaking of..she'd gotten so lost in her thoughts that she hadn't noticed she was walking right into someone. She let out a surprised squeak, reaching to steady the girl so she didn't fall. Even in a mask, she could tell this girl was beautiful. Gorgeous, even. Though when she studied what she was wearing, she felt her cheeks grow warm. Even without a mirror she could tell that she was flustered. Probably as red as her hair, Apollo help her. "I'm so sorry...are you okay? I wasn't looking where I was going, and.." Stop talking. And she did, just to spare herself from more embarrassment. And then because she couldn't help it, she blurted out "I can buy you a drink to make up for it?" Well, she could've very well paid for it? But by one for herself? Still..there was no telling at this point whether or not the other woman would get mad. Elle would feel bad for spoiling someone's mood just because she wasn't looking.
