Two of Lily's favorite things in the whole entire world were Halloween and masquerades, and since those two were being combined the flower child was simply ecstatic. The past week she made herself almost sick with excitement and anticipation, rushing to get a costume. In the end she didn't have to buy one, as her aunt had sent one to her via her dad. While she might have not known about Lily's godly parentage, she did know about Lily's love for flowers. The result was a beautiful flower child costume, and her dark hair was temporarily a striking white. Running a brush through her hair, Lily fixed the mask her aunt had also sent to her on her face. Tonight would be fun, she promised herself. Tonight she wasn't herself but a confident girl that would dance with strangers instead of hiding in a corner. Her fingers went to smooth her skirt down, getting any wrinkles out. Odds were she could be as daring and charming as she wanted to be without most likely ever seeing someone again. Right?
Taking a deep breath, Lily went to retrieve her best friend. She waited for her best friend to come out, wiggling her eyebrows comically when she did. "Heeey, gorgeous. Do I know you?" They set off with arms linked, giggling and laughing their heads off. Lily felt practically high on life, soon starting to skip and bounce, pulling Lydia along by her arm. "I wonder if there are pretty people there? I'd love to dance with someone!" Of course, there would also be scary costumes. But they didn't usually bug you if you didn't show fear. Those people were more likely to go after the ones who looked scared. I can be someone else tonight, she reminded herself. Not that she wasn't brave when it mattered, but she wasn't a huge fan of horror movies.
When they actually got to the masquerade party, Lily tried to not look too overwhelmed by all the music and dancing. Being slightly overwhelmed aside, everything looked amazing. A bubble of laughter escaped her lips before she could stop it as she turned her head towards her best friend. "We'll split up for now, okay? And we'll meet back up later." Separating didn't seem to bug her, as she could spot Lydia from a mile away. She kissed her best friend on the cheek before slipping away, stretching her bare arms a little. No one could see the old scars in this light unless they looked closely, she told herself. Everything would be fine. Lily looked around, admiring all of the different costumes. Halloween really was her favorite holiday. No argument there.
