He is a true-blooded, textbook Hermes kid. He loves a joke and a prank, and anybody can tell almost instantly who his godly parent is. He's easy to make conversation with, and even in the most serious conversations he seems aloof. But that's because he believes that everyone needs to stay true to their godly identity. There is a balance that can only be achieved when everyone plays their role.
He is very lively and energetic with everything he does. It's partially the reason he's leader, because rather than the natural leadership skills a Zeus child may have, he gets everyone else caught up in his enthusiasm and vigor to get done whatever his goal is. He's pretty smart for a typical Hermes kid also, and while he leans on the trick plays of a strategy book he knows a little bit about everything.
His attitude about the Greek/Roman hybrid camp is more confusion than anger. And he doesn't like being the one confused, so that then turns to anger. He's sad to see what the mix of Greeks and Romans has come to, and sees it only ending in destruction. Just as it did the first time. But more than that, he lives by the Joker's renowned phrase, "Some men just want to watch the world burn." So he will protect his own, and lash out at everyone else, mainly for the lulz of it. The Titan demigods he dislikes a little less. He even admires them to an extent, but he could never trust them to backstab him enough to befriend them.
Joseph was a difficult child growing up. After he was adopted as a babe, it was painfully clear even from toddler years that he was a huge mischief maker. He was a cryer when he wanted his way, and he was never satisfied until he got what he wanted. Being told this by his mother as he grew up instilled his belief in keeping the heritage traditions pure. He was always told that things are the way they are for a reason. And being the huge momma's boy he was, he hung on every word that both of them said. It wasn't really until he was fourteen though when he blew up the principal's office with a bubblegum bomb that he was claimed as a Hermes child. He was stuck in the office (literally. It was messy) with no way out and desperately wishing he was in his room, and suddenly he was. And after a panic, he passed out. And then he was given a dream of Camp Half-Blood, so vividly that he could see himself there and fast traveled. And it was there that he was told everything else he needed to know to keep him from having an existential crisis. One of his half-brothers, Mark, taught him everything about himself and his powers he needed to know. He looked up to this guy, idolized him even. He was the big brother and male role model he always needed but never had.
Everything was well and dandy for years after that, until the bloody Romans came along. War broke out, and while he wasn't the most avid fighter he did fight. As the Greek camp fell to ruins in the second attack, Mark was killed. It devastated him. And when Balt declared a truce, it was a final blow. Those Romans, who killed so many of them, could not get away with this. He was the most vigorous to speak out against it, and to his surprise there were others who felt this way. He made it clear that if this truce happened, he wouldn't have any part of it. But Balt did it anyway. What did he care? Joseph was only a Hermes kid anyway, nothing to be reckoned with. He left, and others followed. With no other plans after that, he led the people who left with him wherever the wind took them. They scavenged, did what they had to do. Set up their own mini-camps for a small while and then moved on when it wasn't safe to stay comfortable in one place. But when the truce falls through between the Romans and the Greeks, he will be there to strike, and gloat in Balt's bloody face how he was right.
FAST TRAVEL- This is the reason he picked up the nickname Flash. When he wants to grab something, he's there. It was like super speed, or at least that's how he likes to think of it as. It gets a little tiring if he does it too much and he enjoys lazy walks, so he doesn't do it going everywhere. Just most places, if he's been there before.
FAST COMBAT- He picked up on training fast. He was never a books art kind of person, he loved hands-on activities. So while he failed drastically in the book and classes department, he excelled in combat training and physical activities. He does it because he loves it, though he's not a violent type of person when it comes to malice. It's all only fun if it's a game. He's lightning fast when he fights, and he uses his speed travel aptly when he does.
