I must have been half drunk when I decided to come here, Edmund berated himself, looking up at the entrance to Wonderland's carnival. Since when had he ever liked fairs or fun or carnivals? Okay, take that back, he liked it when he had been like... eight. When there had actually been fun in his life. Still, no matter, time to kill, that's all this was: a distraction to halt him from sleeping and pondering over his endless thoughts in solitude. Maybe a slight regression to when he had liked Disney movies (also when he had been around eight). Edmund couldn't say whether he explicitly remembered Disney's Alice in Wonderland, but he did remember it giving him nightmares about cards chasing him and about drowning. Maybe he had blocked the movie out of his mind, just as he had countless other occasions and sights. Well, for whatever the reason, the flyer had interested him enough to stop by. Not like he had anything else to do except wander around, check out flea markets, fight the occasional monster, break into the occasional house, and wood carve, so why the hell not?
He hadn't come with anyone, of course he hadn't, he had no one to go to it with. Alone, as always; but then again, that was how he liked it. The first ride that caught his attention was something called The River of Tears. Before he could help himself, a small smirk flickered onto his stoic face. Kind of morbid in a way, but a River of Tears... it sort of related to his life. Not himself anymore, of course not, but maybe his effect on other people once or twice. He approached the ride warily, his usual caution not evaporating just because this was supposed to be some sort of carnival fun fest. Looked safe enough. If not, he could always just jump out or try to wreck the ride. He had done that once when he was little: a ride had freaked him out too much and before his parents knew it, he had found the little panel underneath their seat and had stopped their ride pod from moving. The park officials had his parents take him away before he had gotten the chance to fix it again. Easy fix too... especially since all he had wanted was to get off.
