History
It all began with a woman named Helga Leonhart, a poor maid who worked for a rich family that she managed to get hired after leaving her home country in Scandinavia for the states. She was in a terrible car accident that crippled her indefinitely. She had to be let go from her job because of it and became very depressed and felt very sorry for herself. For a about a year she stayed with distant relatives and almost never left the house, eventually her family saved up enough money to her get help. She had gotten physical therapy and a therapist. Eventually Helga got better, even more so than she was before the accident. But she was still slightly crippled and she had ugly scars from her accident. She eventually got a job as waitress in a well off cafe. Eventually she ran into Hephaestus who he referred to himself as Richard at the time. She thought her scars were beautiful and that she was beautiful no matter how badly damaged she was. He was the only one who made her feel like she was everything so of course she fell for him. After a month of dating and enjoying each other Richard had to leave but not before revealing to Helga who he was. She was shocked at first and didn't believe it at first but after being able to make a rather complicated device rather easily, she became convinced.
At the same time Helga was pregnant after that and gave birth to Astrid.Helga also fell in love again with an American businessman and they got married and he officially adopted Astrid as his own daughter. She loved her daughter very much. She loved dressing her up in the cutest outfits, though Astrid herself wasn't very amused. Astrid hated being dressed up in stuffy clothes and over all hated wearing anything that was brightly colored clothes. Growing up Astrid liked doing stuff that'd ruin all of her clothes. She liked playing in the mud, she's play stick ball with the neighbor kids, she'd go on adventures with them too. Time and time again Helga would yell at Astrid because she was getting hurt and she was girl playing with boys and it wasn't her place to. Even her new step father agreed with Helga and Astrid hated it. She hated being treated differently because she was a girl. Gender had nothing to do with it. But between her mother's old ways back home and her stepfather being raised in a similar manner she just grew to hate it.
As Astrid got older she took an interest in technology and like building stuff and taking things apart. At the age of ten she made a simple device, you pressed a button and the light bulb would turn on. She was a genius, and instead of praising her she was yelled at. Girls don't build things they said. They become housewives and have kids and take care of her family. Astrid just stopped talking to her parents altogether. It was obvious they didn't understand her so there was no point in talking to them. She just continued to build stuff secretly and not at home but in a hideout she and her friends had. She called it her little forge and her friends helped her out.
The last straw was when she found the box that contained pictures of Richard, she also found letters he wrote to her mother and even the device he made. In the letter he explained to Helga that Astrid was a demigod and that she needed to get to a place called Camp Halfblood if she was ever going to have a chance as survival. of course Astrid was caught with the stuff and there was a big argument. She wasn't going anywhere, she was going to stay here and be normal. It didn't matter who her father was she was fine here the entire time she didn't need to go to camp. What she needed to do was finish school, go to college and eventually get married. Apparently they were arranging a marriage for her? Who even does that anymore? It was one of the kids she used to play with, he was nice but he was like them. He wanted her to be a good wife, but that's not what Astrid wanted.
Astrid just got so mad in the middle of the night she found the box yet again. She stole the letter and the device and she essentially ran away from home at the age of fifteen. She lived where ever she could, she made money as a hacker and a business in repairing broken tech for people. She lived in motels bouncing around trying to get to this Camp Halfblood. She only really found it because she bumped into someone that was a camper and saw the device Astrid had and recognized it as one of the Forgemaster's. They gladly lead Astrid to Camp Halfblood, she was just sixteen.
Astrid was there for only two years but she kept to herself, she spent most of her time in the forge. Honing her craft, she did have friends, although not many, they existed. She rather enjoyed her time at camp, she had much in common with all the campers and since she was away from her family she didn't need to worry about them trying to take her home or anything. But this wouldn't last, eventually war broke out between them and a place called Camp Jupiter. It was basically a camp like theirs but with Roman Gods. Astrid used her crafting ability to make weapons for everyone. She even did some fighting as well. It was horrible to watch the only place she ever really called home burn to the ground. She just shut down after than and remained passive, cold, and unemotional.
It got worse when the leaders decided to patch things up. Now while that wasn't an issue for Astrid what was the issue is that they decided to make a joint camp. She didn't really trust the Romans all that much. The only evidence she had was they they were bloodthirsty and would probably back stab them. Not wanting to be apart of the train wreck, Astrid left and became a renegade. She is currently staying at the Greek Renegade Camp that she heard about after a few months living on the road again. Everything is relatively the same for her but she still wants her old camp back.
Personality
Positive Traits:
- Brilliant - As a natural inventor and blessed with Technokinesis, Astrid is quite the genius with an IQ of 155 and uses this genius to build all sort of machinery and technology. She was able to create a simple device that lights up when she was just ten years old. She continued to build things, repair broken tech, and devises schematics for future projects. Before joining camp Astrid had a rather popular business repairing and building things for people. She also had a side job as a hacker, the internet is a technological advancement, one that Astrid is well adverse in and can retrieve just about anything from it. Her hacker name is The Forgemaster.
- Eloquent - Astrid, despite her appearance is very affluent in her speech and writing. She has no trouble with expressing something to someone. She has a rather articulate vocabulary and sometimes will become quite verbose if locked into a conversation. She tries to be as clear as possible and tries not to confuse people, however this does happen often. Astrid attempts to use smaller and understandable words as much as possible.
- Hardworking - Even though Astrid is a genius, she puts all her efforts into all of her projects. She doesn't half ass anything that she does. Everything has high priority and is carefully looked at. Each creation is like a child to her and she wants nothing but the best. She goes all out for all her projects, embedding her blood, sweat, and tears into it. When people see her work they see how involved she is in it and how much she cares about what she makes.
- Masculine - If it wasn't already obvious, Astrid isn't the kind of girl to wear dresses or spend a long time on make up, really feminine things. She appears to be quite masculine and in some ways acts really manly as well. This doesn't mean she resents her feminine side. She loves being a woman, but she loves being a strong woman who can depend on herself to get things done.
Neutral Traits:
- Enigmatic - Astrid sometimes forgets how smart she is. She rarely talks to people unless it's for working purposes but when she does talk to them, they have a hard time understanding her. Sometimes she has strange habits that people can't really explain. Her reasoning for doing certain things is puzzling too. She's a mysterious and strange individual and hard to figure out right away.
- Nonchalant - Astrid has this easygoing chill mentality. She never seems over stressed, worried, angry, nothing that might inhibit her. This doesn't mean she doesn't feel those feelings but she tries not to let it show that certain things bother her. This aspect of her personality lets her get in cahoots with people, especially for work.
- Private - Astrid doesn't like to talk about herself in any type of manner. She doesn't like people knowing her business. She doesn't think that people will understand her and she'd rather just not let anyone get involved. Not family, not friends. No one. She is very adamant about this and isn't shy to tell people off if they try to pry into her life. She's so private she doesn't even own a journal, the only one who knows how she really feels is herself. No one else.
- Skeptical - It can be difficult to convince Astrid to believe other than what she already knows. She is very firm in what she believes in, she does have an open mind and will look into things herself but she isn't easily convinced. She needs evidence, facts, proof. If you don't have that, you don't have a chance of making her believe whatever it is you want her to believe.
Negative Traits:
- Apathetic - Astrid isn't very good at showing her emotions to people. She also has a hard time expressing concern or worry about the people that are close to her. Verbally she can communicate that she is worried or concerned, but it always seems so cold. No feeling behind her words what's so ever. This may cause some stress in her relationships with family and friends because it just seems she doesn't give a damn about anything or anyone.
- Disorganized - Have you seen Astrid's tent? Better question is have you seen her floor? Neither has she, her tent is in such disarray it'll be a miracle if you could navigate through her tent without stubbing your toe on a piece of metal or slip on one as a matter of fact. No amount of arguing will maker her clean the mess up. It'll remain that way since technically she knows where everything is.
- Pragmatic - Realistically what's in it for me? This is probably a question you will get from her anytime you ask her a favor. Astrid doesn't do favors for "the sake of good" or 'for a good friend'. Too many people have taken advantage of that and Astrid never really gained anything from it. So from a logical view point, why should she do this favor for you? How will it benefit her in anyway?
- Repressed - Astrid likes to keep things bottled up and not talk to anyone about it. Because of this she's rather restrained. Even when upset she never says what's on her mind. And no matter how hard someone may try she'd rather shut down than open up to someone who may not even understand her.
Powers & Abilities
[WELCOME TO THE GUNSHOW] Being a child of the forge god comes with some perks. In order to make things one must have the strength to do so. Astrid is very strong for someone of her height and build. She is able to lift things at the level of some well toned and muscular men. However she can over do it and hurt herself if she's not careful. And she's not as strong as a big three child.
[GEEK SQUAD] Being a technopath means they can touch a machine and basically tell you whats wrong with it, get an understanding of how it works or even just the basics of it. Astrid can use this to memorize schematics and create machines from scratch. She can also turn machines off and on from contact. Her powers won't work on machinery that is broken and beyond repair.
[TESLA EFFECT] Astrid is a natural at inventing things and can make just about anything. However this takes time and materials.
[HEAVY METAL BROKE MY HEART] Astrid has the ability to detect metals anywhere. She can also identify metals and their make up by touch. Anything that isn't natural in metals will be detected as unknown.
[FLAME ON] Astrid is heat resistant, unable to be burned by normal flames. Can't say the same about certain magical fires.
