"FIND WHAT YOU LOVE..."
"...and let it kill you."
Isa was rarely by her lonesome. She was always surrounded either by the sound of clashing metal or demigod chatter. The daughter of Venus found that it was easier for her thoughts to be swept away by other happenings rather than wander in silence. With silence came past memories, accompanied with all the regret and resentment that never left her. But that day, it was the past itself that isolated her. It came without warning, during lunch hour, in the form of a worn envelope. Two hours later, Isabella now stood at the shore of the lake with her gaze fixated on the water. In her right hand she clutched the same envelope, its seal still intact. Scrawled in blue ink above the return address read ‘Matteo Di Luca’. Her brother.
To other campers, there was nothing extraordinary about receiving a letter from a relative. With the past war and ongoing conflicts, most chose to keep in contact with their family. Most of them were only teenagers, after all, and family was one thing they needed the most. But Isa’s predicament was different. She’d spent years trying to erase her mortal bloodline and when things were finally looking up, the past chose to reach up from the depths of Tartarus to wrap its hands around her throat and asphyxiate her.
The daughter of Venus' gaze lowered to the letter in her hand, curiosity ever-so-present in the back of her mind. Yet at the same time, all she longed to do was reach outwards towards the murky water of the lake and unclasp her hand. All she wanted to do was watch as the dark waters engulfed the letter written by one of the few people Isabella truly loved. But Isa couldn’t let herself do that either, for she knew that if she were to destroy the envelope, remorse would eat her alive.
Isabella sighed.
If only she was brave enough to let go.

Note: I admit, it's not the best starter, Sorry! My muse has once again abandoned me :3
